We did a fun and educational homeschool project that I like to call Story Stage.
What I did, was give each child 2 boxes and they had to build their own stage. I did not tell them how it should look or give them any instructions on how to do it. I just told them if they needed any other materials, they must just say and we will see what we can find.
The second thing I gave them, was pictures from a coloring book that was of sea animals. With these, I told them that they should cut out long strips of carton to add to the bottom part of the animals so that they can hold them behind the stage to tell their stories. They each had to think out their own story about these sea animals. This was a good exercise for grammatical as well as story telling abilities.
The best part is that it did not cost us anything.
So, let's see what they came up with (oh, by the way, I gave them one week to complete the project and they had to tell their stories to the entire family)
This was the Little Ladies work. She cut the other box out around the corners and pinned old pieces of material in the corners. She closed the curtains before she started her show and when she was finished, she closed them again.
She really had allot of fun, because she is so creative.
This was the Big Boy's creation:
He cut out the inside of the other box and decorated the outside, which he put with screws onto the other box. He also enjoyed telling his story and even had rocks that he moved up and down with a piece of string that he attached with pins at the back and moved them up and down with his feet.
This Story Stage project was allot of fun and it was very interesting to see how creative they can be. The most amazing part was how they were helping each other during the entire time.
There were also times when one idea did not quite work and they had to think out another way to make things work out, which is great for skills development and problem solving.
I hope you are going to try this fun creative project that is entertaining as well as a great learning experience. Feel free to share how your project came out, I would love to see it.
