Using great comment etiquette can make people smile and love you even more!

Bad commenting

When commenting on other blogs it is important to remember that you are representing your brand, your name and your personality.

Sadly, there are people around who think that negative comments are attracting allot of attention, or they just get a kick out of hurting other people, but I don't think that it should affect any blogger that much, because (and this is my own personal opinion) I think these people got hurt in the past and they want to take it out on other people.

If you go to Farouk Radwan's site (Click Here!), click on the articles.

There you can go to arrogance and narcissism, then go to arrogance: definition, causes and more, you will find detailed information about these types of people.

You can find out more about self confidence in his emails and books to help you if someone hurt you with their comments.

What is good comment etiquette?

When you find a post that really drew your attention from beginning to end, you can leave the blogger a comment.

If you only write "Thanks" or "Great post" it might seem like spam, because the spammer don't read posts.

They don't have a clue what is in the post or what it is about.

One of the first signs that a comment is spam is when it has no relevance to the post at all. That explains why a "thanks" or "great post" comment will also look like spam.

To help you to know what else to write in the comments, you can ask yourself the following questions:

1. What reaction did you have when you read the post?

  • Did you laugh?
  • Did it make you feel sad?
  • Did it inspire you to take action?
  • Why did it make you feel that way?

2. If the blogger made a point, or expressed an opinion (like I did above) do you agree or disagree?

  • If you agree - is there another reason why you feel the same that the blogger did not mention?
  • If you disagree - why do you disagree?

3. If the blogger mentioned something personal that happened to him/her

  • have you ever had the same kind of experience that you could share?

4. If the blogger wrote about a book, a movie, an online course, a music album or anything relevant

  • have you read it, seen it, done it or listened to it?
  • did you enjoy it?
  • is there something similar that you can recommend that his/her readers might enjoy?

5. Is there any part of the post that reminds you of something that you've read somewhere else?

  • if so, you can mention how it relates to the post and link to it in the comments.

6. Is there anything more that you would like to hear or learn more about?

  • are there any unanswered questions?
  • is there some points the blogger made that you didn't understand?

7. Did the post change your mind about something?

  • Maybe you wanted to try out something and the post persuaded you not to (like the is it a scam or not question)
  • or the blogger persuaded you to try out something you wanted to all along, but wasn't sure if it was right for you (like Ramsay finally persuaded me to try out AWeber)
  • it could even be that the blogger taught you something that you didn't know before

Why leave comments?

If you have a blog and you comment on other blogs, you put yourself out there.

Other people see you and if your comment is interesting, useful or they like you, they will go to your site as well to see what you've been up to.

It is a way of letting other people know you also exist in this huge sea of content on the internet.

Leaving good comments is a great way of "advertising" yourself and your site.

Grow your blog's visibility by leaving great comments.

That is also the main reason why you should use comment etiquette and not delve into attacking the blogger personally, because other people see you and might decide that they will never visit your site.

If you disagree with something that the blogger said, the best comment etiquette will be to tell them nicely that you don't agree and give reasons why.

Over to you

This is your chance to leave useful comments and use comment etiquette I explained.

It is also your chance to agree or disagree with my personal opinion about people leaving negative comments.

See how many questions you can answer from the comment etiquette list.

If you can add anything that falls under comment etiquette, please feel free to do so, all you have to do is leave a comment below under "speak your mind".
