Getting a new pet is always exciting, we got a new pet hamster
We have a dog (3 actually), tropical fish, we had cats, we had a bird (a cockatiel), we even had bunnies, but can you believe it, we're not finished, we now have to try out the hamster.
He is absolutely cute, but we knew nothing about taking care of this little guy, that to me looks just like a mouse only with a short tail. Maybe from now on, I won't be scared of mice any more.
This eBook really helped us allot, so if you have a hamster (or want to get one), feel free to download a copy from the link below if you need to know more about hamsters:
Our personal experience with our new pet hamster so far:
I can add that this little guy is in the cage we used for the bird, because sadly, the bird was old and died a while back. My hubby added a steel frame around the sides, because Hammy could fit through the bars.
His cage was in our Daughter's room, because she wanted the Hamster and would be taking care of him.
Then one morning as I was checking in on him, he was not in his little house – he escaped. I searched my daughter’s room, because I knew that he would be there somewhere.
She has a doll house in her room and behind it are the curtains. When I lifted the curtain, there he was sitting in the dark behind the doll house. Apparently he liked that spot, because he escaped again the next day and I found him there again.
But for his own safety, we felt that he should only be out of the cage when we can keep an eye on him to make sure that he is safe. They are creatures of the night, so the time he escapes is the time everybody is sleeping. So we worked out a new plan......
We put his cage inside the bath – crazy, I know, but since then, the little guy stays put. Although he is able to climb out of his cage, he doesn't.
Sometimes we take him out to run around in a safe environment and he really enjoys these free moments, but as soon as he starts looking tired, we put him back.
Other times he will run on his wheel and do his daily (or rather nightly) exercises.
