When it comes to the safety of your kids, there are allot of things to consider, this part about marking their book bags is only one small part
This is not your everyday post on how you shouldn't let your kids go out when it is dark, or how you should not let them walk alone, this post is about when they go to school.
When marking their book bags:
When marking your kids book bags, there are a few things to consider:
Don't mark their book bags on the outside with their full names:
We all tend to buy book bags at either the same shops or they tend to look allot like the ones the other kids have. There is normally a certain design that all the kids love and everyone of them wants the same bags.
This lets you think you must try to mark the book case clearly so that everyone (including your own child) will not take each others' bags in the hurry when they are swopping classes.
Imagine the feeling when your child gets home after school and they are ready to start with their homework and the books they have are not their own. Now you must struggle to find the person who has her bag. Chances are it is the person whose books are inside the bag.
To avoid this, you must make sure that your child will take his/her own book case, you know this, I know, but do you take precautions when you do this?
The best way to mark their book cases in a safe way is to:
- put a keyring holder that is bright or different from anything else, on the handle (where it can be seen clearly)
- make marks like stars or hearts where you would have put their names
- if you are artistic, you can draw a picture of something that will differentiate the bag (maybe Hello Kitty, SpongeBob or maybe Batman)
Why you should not put their names on the outside
Sadly, we live in a cruel twisted world.
Sadly there are crazy people out there who does not realize how much you love your kids and they want to harm them.
Now what does this have to do with the book cases?
When you write your child's name on the outside and he/she walks past a person whom they don't know, this person will see their name and can call them by their name. Your child will immediately think that this person knows him/her.
They can very easily then tell your child that you quickly had to go to the hospital or something happened and you sent them to pick up your child.
Your child will believe them, because they knew your child's name. (They don't realize yet that they cannot trust everybody although we tell them regularly)
For the sake of the safety of your kids make sure when you are marking their book bags that you never write their names (and addresses) on the outside of the bag. Please share this information with your friends so that we can keep our kids safe.
Over to you:
1. do you have any new ideas for us on how we can mark our kids' book bags without writing their names on it?
2. before you read this, did you know that you must not write your kids' names on their book bags?
